The Ostalbkreis offers a variety of adventures in every season. No matter whether the sun is shining or rain is falling, whether you feel like enjoying culture or nature, a pub or a museum visit – there won’t be any boredom at our site.
Cycling and hiking trails
Special mention should be made of the Kocher-Jagst bicycle trail, which is one of the most popular cycle tours in Germany and runs directly past the camping site.
A wide network of cycling and hiking trails around Ellwangen invites you to explore the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings and its sights, such as the Limestor or the Bucher Stausee.
Public indoor wave pool
Relax, dive down and feel good! The Ellwanger Wellenbad guarantees bathing fun for young and old:
Experience action & fun in the large wave pool, relaxation and wellness on one of the bubble loungers in the warm outdoor pool or treat yourself to a break in one of our relaxation rooms.
Work up a sweat in the steam sauna, let your children splash and play in the warm children’s pool or slide extensively in the new underwater world.
Many swimming lakes
A large number of swimming lakes are located around Ellwangen. In addition to the Kreßbach and Sonnenbach lakes, the Rainau Buch recreation area is located in the middle of the Gemeinde Rainau and in the immediate vicinity of Ellwangen.
The Bucher Stausee located there has a bathing beach with beach bar, a water playground for children and a beach volleyball field. You will also find a boat rental and other sailing offers here.
Ellwangen Castle
The extensive castle complex located directly in Ellwangen goes back to a medieval castle.
In the years 1603 – 1608 the complex was redesigned into a Renaissance castle. Thus, the Ellwangen Heimattage are still held every year in the impressive arcade courtyard dating from this time. During the baroque period (1720), the castle underwent further alterations.
Other sights in the castle include the staircase, completed in 1726, the chapel with numerous Renaissance elements and the magnificent throne room in the castle museum.
Historical churches
For an extended day trip it is definitely worthwhile to visit the various historical churches around Ellwangen.
In addition to the Basilica St. Vitus, which is located directly on Ellwangen’s market square, the popular and extremely impressive pilgrimage church Schönenberg is especially worth mentioning.
Because in Schönenberg the so-called “Voralberger Münsterschema” was completed for the first time. After a devastating fire, the pilgrimage church was completely rebuilt.
Historic cities
Do you feel like a stroll through the city and a little sightseeing far away from the everyday life of camping?
You’re lucky, because in the direct vicinity of Ellwangen there are some interesting historical towns that are just waiting to be visited:
The large district towns of Aalen, Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen are only a few minutes away by car and invite you to stroll through the idyllic old towns.
There is also something for every taste: shopping centers, libraries, cafés, restaurants and bars.
Limes World Cultural Heritage
The Limes World Cultural Heritage covers a distance of about 6 km and includes the area of the municipality of Rainau with its districts Buch, Schwabsberg and Dalkingen.
In this area some of the most beautiful individual monuments and parts of the Limes are preserved in high concentration. Through models and information boards all objects are explained on site.
In addition, the many testimonies of the Romans at the Limes near Rainau can be easily reached via several parking lots and a circular hiking trail.
